Program Description:
Students and graduates considering career paths in Asian relations will gain valuable practical information and experience. Spend four high-energy weeks in Tokyo and improve your Japanese language proficiency while developing an understanding of Japanese culture and business through class lessons, outside activities, business lectures, and company visits. This program is ideal for college students (and college graduates) who are considering a career path in Asian relations. It is full of practical information and experiences to prepare you for what to expect.

The first two weeks focus on intensive Japanese language study. The goal is both to acquire linguistic knowledge in class and to enjoy opportunities to apply this knowledge in real situations in and out of class. The tea ceremony, calligraphy, and a day trip outside Tokyo are part of the curriculum. In the second two weeks, students learn about Japanese business through lectures, presentations by companies, and excursions to business sites. Lectures focus on quality control in Japanese business (a globally recognized strength) as well as on senior marketing strategies in an aging society in Japan. You also learn practical aspects, including Japanese business customs like nemawashi (“going around the roots”) and ho-ren-so (an abbreviation of hokoku / reporting, renraku /communication, and sodan / consulting).

Students will earn 4 semester language credits, and 2 credits of a Business in Japan course.
Setting Description:
Students will study at KCP International Japanese Language School in the heart of Tokyo (Shinjuku).
Cost:
Tuition, fees, orientation, textbooks, excursions, cultural activities - $2400. All above, plus private dorm room, local transportation, airport pick-up - $3850. Academic credit is available for a nominal fee.
