Program Overview

Program Description:
The YLAC summer program is an opportunity for you to discover what it means to be a leader in this globalized world. You will experience the thrill of discovery, the joy of supporting others, and what it means to contribute to the common good. In a future where cooperation between the U.S. and China will be critical for global harmony, leaders who can excel across the Pacific, regardless of whichever field they work or study in, will be their generation’s instruments of peace and growth. YLAC’s organizers designed each day, trip, and project to help you discover your greatest strengths and put them into practice. By the end of this program, you will not only leave with a deeper understanding of your strengths, Chinese language and culture, but also how you can lead together with your American and Chinese peers. As you prepare to enter college, this exceptional experience will help you stand out amongst your peers. You went to China, and you excelled.

YLAC will encourage students to choose at least one major theme from which to develop a project for their learning pleasure. They are: social trends, sustainable economic development and business, environmental protection, journalism, history and culture, performing and fine arts, architecture, and women's issues and leadership. Students will work together in small groups of two to five based on their primary selected theme; however, there will be the option to work individually if desired. In some instances, students may also seek approval to come up with their own theme. Program staff will support students in the theme selection and implementation process.

Simply put, studying Chinese culture and language is not a luxury- it is a necessity for America’s future leaders. This program prepares young leaders to communicate, collaborate, and succeed with their American and Chinese peers.
