Program Overview
- Program Description:
- 15 Michigan high school students are given the unique opportunity to stay with a student from Shiga Prefecture, Japan for two weeks in the summer. The Michigan students attend school with their Shiga hosts and spend time experiencing daily life and Japanese culture with their host families. In September, the Shiga students visit Michigan for two weeks and stay with the family of the student they hosted, allowing for a reciprocal exchange of culture, language, and friendship.
The program allows students to experience Japanese culture by visiting a Japanese High School with their Japanese student partners and living with a host family. Participants also have the chance to experience a cultural festival (called bunkasai in Japanese) in which the Japanese students organize activities involving sports, dances, games, and music.
Includes housing, meals, ground transportation in Japan, orientation, and *international health insurance. Air fare is organized by a travel agent through a group flight.
