Setting Description:
Orvieto is a small hill town nestled in the very heart of Italy. The city rises out of the Umbrian countryside, its strong medieval profile burgeoning from its tufo foundation. What Orvieto lacks in size, it makes up for in history, architecture, art, cuisine and culture. Orvieto known as Urbs Vetus to the Romans, was a huge Etruscan center, and many years later even provided residence to the papacy. The town has hosted famous artists, intellectuals and authors since before the Renaissance. In keeping with these traditions, Orvieto still attracts students of all disciplines and all ages. It is often considered the jewel of Italy, because of the town’s famous cathedral and its all-encompassing beauty, and some refer to the city an island in the sky.
