Shanghai (pop. 23,019,148) is China's largest city and financial capital. It is located on the central east coast of the country and enjoys moderate temperatures in the winter and hot summers. 

Shanghai has been a market city for over 1,000 years. In the 19th century, the city operated as a popular port location, which helped pave the way towards Shanghai eventually becoming one of the most important economic centers in the world. The city is one of contrast- old and ancient temples lie scattered throughout the endless skyscrapers, inexpensive markets stand next to state-of-the-art shopping malls, restaurants serving international cuisine can be found sharing walls with local food spots. It it truly astounding how Shanghai can feel both cosmopolitan and fast paced, as well as ancient and quiet. 

Shanghai's long history as an Asian trade hub has contributed to its distinct welcoming and open atmosphere, making it the ideal location for those who wish to study abroad in China and learn more about Chinese language and culture.

The ISA semester programs in Shanghai offers an array of courses taught in English, as well as Chinese language courses.

The Students participating in the Business, Chinese Studies & Language program in Shanghai will be able to take a diverse set of courses taught in English. Courses that are offered may cover subjects such as Business, Political Science, Economics, and History.

Students participating in the Intensive Chinese Language semester or summer program at East China Normal University will take a full course load of Mandarin language classes, which will including speaking, reading, writing, and listening components.

Setting Description:
The ISA Shanghai office is located on the main campus of East China Normal University. The ISA office is very close to one of Shanghai's two airports and only a short metro ride from downtown. The ISA office provides support for all aspects of the program including language tutoring for all levels of Mandarin.
