Cusco is a city in southeastern Peru, situated in the Peruvian Andes Mountains. Cusco is home to the palace of the Inca, the Temple of the Sun, and the nearby Inca archaeological site of Machu Picchu. The first Spaniards arrived in the 1530s, with Spanish conquistador, Francisco Pizarro, discovering the city. Much of the architecture in present-day Cusco is a mix of Inca and Spanish influence.
Centro Tinku is located in the heart of Cusco and promotes cultural exchanges through the diffusion of knowledge about Andean traditional cultures and languages. In Quechua, tinku means "encounter". Instructors at the Centro Tinku utilize the latest teaching techniques in language instruction focused on communicative methodology, supported by audiovisual and web-based media. Centro Tinku was founded in 2003 and hosts a small student population, which allows for a more one-on-one instruction.
