IVHQ’s Sri Lanka program allows volunteers to choose the project they would be most interested in, and they can choose from Teaching, Childcare, Medical, Temple Renovation, Elderly Care, Turtle Conservation and Wild Elephant Conservation. Volunteer’s time is greatly valued in Sri Lanka, and the locals are eager to share their culture with anyone who is interested. If you choose to volunteer in Sri Lanka, you will get to start your time with an orientation to Sri Lanka where you get an introduction to the local customs, and you will take part in local activities such as Ayurvedic massage and Sri Lankan cooking classes. Setting Description:
Volunteers will be placed in Kandy for the majority of the projects except the Turtle Conservation and Wild Elephant Conservation. Turtle Conservation volunteers will be placed in Amabalangoda which is 90km south of Colombo, and volunteers on the Wild Elephant Conservation are placed in Wasgamuwa National Park which is north of Kandy. Volunteers are accommodated in volunteer houses so there are plenty of opportunities for socializing and planning events for the weekend.
