Program Description:

IVHQ was established in 2007 and has grown to become the world's leading volunteer travel organization, placing thousands of volunteers abroad every year and offering a variety of projects, including Teaching, Childcare, Medical, Construction and Renovation, Community Development, Turtle Conservation and Wildlife Conservation. IVHQ prides itself on providing affordable, safe and responsible volunteer programs in over 30 different locations, and the affordability and transparency of their program fees have played a significant role in establishing IVHQ as the world's most popular volunteer travel organization. Whether you're taking a volunteer vacation, a gap year, or a career break, IVHQ has a wide variety of programs ranging from 1 week to 24 weeks to fit anyone's schedule. Browse through the programs on IVHQ's webpage and the team of experienced travelers will be happy to help you find the best match for your skills and cultural interests.

Volunteers can choose from a variety of projects which allow them to help within the local community, including tutoring in the nearby schools, helping with after school childcare centers, providing computer support (for those who are tech savvy), and of course, swimming with the kids on the well sought-after Surf Outreach project. Volunteers can also join the Coastal and Biosphere Conservation project on the Cape West Coast. In any case, volunteers regard this program as a great way to meet other volunteers while traveling and giving back to this beautiful country. During the weekends and evenings, volunteers are encouraged to explore Cape Town and take part in an endless list of activities including extreme sports such as bungee jumping and the Great White Shark dives; treks through Table Mountain and Robin Island; or visits to the coast. Be sure to take a drive along the Garden Route, and don't leave without trying the biltong.

See website for full program fee details.

Setting Description:
Volunteers are accommodated in the Capricorn/Vrygrond community and are accommodated nearby in Muizenberg and Lakeside, which are both approximately a half hour taxi ride from the Cape Town CBD. A great social environment is created as volunteers will stay in one of three volunteer houses. A traditional braai, or barbecue, is always considered a highlight of our South Africa programs orientation and welcome dinner.
Cost:
Starting from $250
