Program Description:

The International Language Institute (ILI) in Halifax, Canada offers 4-, 6-, and 8-week summer English programs to students from around the world. The program includes English language instruction as well as a range of cultural activities and sightseeing excursions that introduce the students to Canadian culture, new experiences, and also gives them ample opportunity to develop independence and self-reliance to practice their English speaking skills.

Integrated language skills - The morning classes form the core of the program and have a balanced approach to all aspects of the language. Students learn and practice their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English. Focused language skills - In these afternoon classes, students will develop speaking, listening, reading,and writing skills. More advanced students may substitute an exam preparation class to prepare for the IELTS test that they will take during the last week of the program. Concentrated language practice - Students have a choice of classes designed to assist them in a variety of situations, such as travel, business, university, and living in an English-speaking community.

Setting Description:

The ILI Social Activities Program has been refined over the past 30 years so that students get the most out of the unique cultural opportunities available only in Atlantic Canada. Options for these activities include a tour of Halifax by land and sea, picking strawberries at a country farm, tube riding on a river, deep sea fishing, camping on a two-day excursion and tidal bore rafting in addition to many other adventures. ILI can also include a number of tourist attractions such as Peggy’s Cove and Queensland Beach for sightseeing.
