Program Overview

Program Description:
The Master of Energy Studies is a 1,5 year program (full-time) that provides students with a solid practical and theoretical knowledge of energy management, climate change and sustainability. The program has a strong industry focus – with regular industry guest speakers, site visits and organised network events. Graduates of the program will be equipped as future industry, government research and community leaders with the skills and expertise to address energy challenges and devise solutions for a sustainable future. The program is delivered at 3 of Australia’s leading universities; The University of Queensland, The University of Western Australia and The University of Newcastle. The program is coordinated by the International Energy Centre. Graduate receive a co-badges Master of Energy Studies by all three universities. The Master of Energy Studies program is delivered via intensive mode. Each course is delivered over 5 consecutive business days at one of the member universities. Candidates need to travel interstate to complete the teaching blocks. After each block, students undertake online tutorials and assessments.

Prominent industry figures will deliver presentations and engage in question and answer sessions. During each intensive teaching block, students attend site visits. These highlight current energy issues like carbon management, social licence to operate, demand and supply forecast, traditional technologies as well as the application of novel innovations such as solar arrays, wave energy and carbon farming initiatives.

Setting Description:
The Master of Energy Studies has been developed by the International Energy Centre, in close collaboration with three leading Australian universities and an industry partner. This unique alliance results in our co-taught, co-delivered and co-badged approach. Co-taught; The teaching team comprises academics from all three member universities. Students learn directly from leading academics, researchers and internationally acclaimed practitioners in the energy sector. Guest presentations by our industry experts provide valuable networking opportunities. Co-delivered; Courses are delivered at all member universities, The University of Queensland (Brisbane), The University of Western Australia (Perth) and The University of Newcastle (Newcastle/Sydney). This gives candidates the opportunity to experience the diverse energy sectors at three different parts of Australia.
