Program Overview

Program Description:
The trip will take place from January 5, 2013 to January 21, 2013 primarily in New Delhi with optional day trips to surrounding areas. Lectures and site visits will focus on fine arts and art history, public policy on the arts, and arts management.

The students will begin each day with a lecture from an esteemed expert on a wide range of topics. The afternoons will be spent with either continued classroom discussions or guided tours relevant to the morning’s topic. Students will be required to maintain a journal while on the trip and complete a final project regarding the people they have met in India. Topics covered include: Indus Valley History, Early Buddhist Art, Hindu Temple Architecture, Mughal Art, Indian Miniature painting, Folk and Tribal Art, Indian Textile Traditions, Decorative Arts and Crafts, Modern Indian Photography, Public Policy and Event Planning

Opportunity for students to increase knowledge of Art History and Public Policy while learning about the Indian culture. We promote students creating and maintaining long term communications with the artists, lecturers, and performers that they meet.
Setting Description:
The students will stay together at the artist residency at the Sanskriti Kendra Culture Center. Feel free to peruse their website for more information on the residence. Along with room and board, the students will attend the lectures on site at the Kendra Center. The afternoon excursions will be all around New Delhi at museums and studios.
Cost:
The cost will be no more than $3,000 USD not including air fare. This includes tuition, room and board, and an IA&A staff member present.
