Program Overview

Program Description:

To serve students at a distance, the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (ITP) is now offering a Low-Residency Master’s in Counseling Psychology program available to working professionals, active parents, and others who are unable to relocate or commute to Palo Alto, CA. This is a low-residency program, flexible enough to meet the needs of adult learners who are balancing many responsibilities while furthering their education. With a unique online environment specifically designed to deliver ITP’s whole-person education, you will receive superb training, build close relationships with other students and faculty, and participate in a supportive online academic community.

The Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology is designed for a career in counseling and psychotherapy, and fulfills the academic requirements for graduates to qualify for state licensure as Marriage and Family Therapists or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors. The curriculum combines foundational coursework in transpersonal psychology with specialized courses in counseling theory and skills development, including a year-long supervised practicum experience.

The 74-unit curriculum consists of 43.5 units offered in an online instructional format and 30.5 units of hands-on clinical training, offered during two week-long residential intensives per year. Flexible scheduling allows students to complete the program in three or four years. Some states may require additional coursework to meet their specific licensure requirements. This additional coursework will be available through our program.
