Program Overview

Program Description:
IAU College, in partnership with CEA, is pleased to introduce an intensive summer program in Barcelona, Spain. Students will earn up to six academic credits (90 contact hours) in Spanish language and in significant municipal, regional and national matters. They will investigate the most significant neighborhoods, plazas, architectural achievements and public art. Lectures and activities will also help students to demystify the city's multi-ethnic population as the result of numerous occupations, expulsions and migrations. Students will reside in homestays which encourages immersion into the Spanish language and culture.

Courses will be held in the center of the city at the CEA College Center for Spanish Language and Culture in Plaza Cataluña. The center includes modern classrooms with Wi-Fi, a staff of academic and student affairs professionals. Students will be housed in shared homestays. Breakfast and dinner will be included as part of the homestay accommodation. Students will be placed together and may request roommates on the housing application form.
Setting Description:
Students who participate in this summer program in Barcelona, Spain will develop a deeper understanding of the Spanish language and its relationship to Catalan history and culture. Full of masterpieces by the famous artists Salvador Dalí and Antoni Gaudi, the city is a classroom in and of itself, exposing students to Modernist and Surrealist architecture and paintings.
Cost:
Program costs include six units of course credit, housing, most meals, cultural activities, insurance and an airport pick-up in Barcelona. Participants will engage in daily classes and two weekend excursions to Girona and Tarragona, leaving two weekends open to optional activities or enjoying the vast array of possibilities the city has to offer. Students meet daily with teachers, local artists and scholars and participate in study tours.
