Program Description:

French language and culture at the IMLS combined with service learning (volunteer community service with a course on institutions)for academic credit.

The IMLS organizes housing, academic programs, excursions, cultural activities and volunteering in humanitarian organizations,schools and hospitals. The objective is to further the development of values and skills outside the classroom and to link up theory and practice through mentoring while immersing oneself in a significant component of French culture. The course on Institutions deals with the major issues in society and the way they are met by French institutions: the French government, Health, the French at work, Economics,the French education system, service agencies,Europe, Housing, Immigration, Women in French society, Justice, Ethics, Ecology,the media

The program gives students an opportunity to get a holistic view of the community. Thus the student is not restricted to an academic setting but becomes part of a richer relationship with the city as a whole. Over the years students have been responding enthusiastically to this alternative form of education. They benefit from a complete immersion in French society through homestay housing and develop from a liguistic, cultural and personal point of view

The IMLS is situated in the historic center of Montpellier,just a few steps away from all transport means (train, tram, bus) to visit the Mediterranean beaches, the historic towns or the breathtaking countryside of the Languedoc region.
