Program Overview

Program Description:

The program begins with a pre-session in Italian language and culture to help students adjust to their new environment. Afterwards, students take one or two classes with other BCSP students while also enrolling in classes with Italian students at the University of Bologna in a wide range of disciplines including Italian language, literature, art history, film, theater, social sciences, economics and some sciences.

For over 40 years this program has integrated U.S. students into the University of Bologna and the city through direct enrollment courses and apartment living with Italian students. The program staff provides support for students who are also actively engaged in the community through non-credit internships and volunteer activities as well as field trips and excursions.

The University of Bologna is Europe's oldest institutions of higher learning and Italy's top-ranked university. BCSP staff provide assistance on a daily basis to its participants and updated Web resources as well as a Facebook fan page and student blogs.

Setting Description:

Bologna, an elegant historic city with a population of almost half a million,is the capital of the wealthy and progressive region of Emilia-Romagna in nothern Italy, famous for its cuisine as well as its unique architecture with porticoed streets.
