Program Overview

Program Description:

Our program guarantees an internship placement to help you develop professional skills that will jump-start your résumé and make you more attractive to employers in today’s competitive job market. IES Internships' unpaid, academic internships place Santiago students at local companies, while also showing students the sights and sounds of Chile.

An IES internship develops your professional skills, your ability to communicate across cultures, and provides substantive work experience to jump-start your career in today’s competitive job market. You'll be guaranteed an unpaid placement at a local business or organization, where you'll work for at least 25 hours a week. You also will enroll in a required 1- or 6-credit academic internship seminar with other IES interns, where you’ll learn about a variety of local business settings and opportunities.

IES Internships, a unit of IES Abroad, offers an exhilarating challenge of real-world experience combined with professional skill building and cultural immersion. Whether you want to spend eight weeks over the summer interning full-time in the field of your choice, or partake in a part-time internship as part of our study abroad program to supplement semester or summer coursework abroad, we have a program that will suit your needs.

Setting Description:
When you step off the plane in Santiago, you’ll be mesmerized by the towering Andes Mountains—and at how the city of Santiago sits neatly below them, contentedly bringing together Chile’s colonial past and its new role as the country’s commercial center. During your stay, see a fútbol game, taste asado Chileno, experience the innovative music scene, and take in the many sides of Chilean culture.
