Program Description:
A meeting place of ancient and new, holy and secular, Jerusalem is a gathering spot for foreign correspondents from around the world. Get a taste of the global journalist’s life by studying with veteran Middle East correspondents; then go into the community to report your own stories. This 6-credit program will include an additional course in the history, politics and culture of Israel. The program is open to English-speaking college students and recent graduates from any school or country.

In this intensive one-month program students study international reporting skills from veteran Middle East correspondents and get real-life experience working as international journalists covering the city of Jerusalem. Students take two 3-credit courses -- Modern Israel, which explores the history, politics and culture of the land, and International Reporting, which offers hands-on journalistic training. Students earn 6 transferable credits from the prestigious Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The course includes meetings with media professionals, public officials and visits to cultural and historic sites.

Students get practice working as international journalists and publish their work on a professional-quality website. Students will have two three-day weekends (Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays) free to explore the city, or to travel within Israel. Tel Aviv, Haifa, Bethlehem and other cities are all accessible by bus.
Setting Description:
Students will live and learn on the Mt. Scopus campus of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Students will live in single rooms within five-person suites in a secure dorm. Each bedroom contains a bed, desk, chair and closet. Linens will be provided. Suitemates share bathrooms and a full kitchen, where participants can prepare their own meals. Moderately priced kosher snack bars, as well as a small supermarket, can be found in or near the student housing complex. Self-service automatic washing machines and dryers are located in each dormitory complex.? The campus is a short bus or cab ride from most sites in the city.
