Program Overview

Program Description:

This summer school teaches relevant management principles in an action-orientated outdoor & white water environment of Claro, Tessin in Switzerland. The course language is English.

Like the environment for managers in a company the environment of white water for a kayaker is marked through uncertain, unpredictable markets and settings, which demands again and again strategic target-orientated decisions by the actors. You will learn relevant management principles effectively and directly exercised in action and individually reflected in a teaching concept called “White Water Management”. We combine modern management knowledge, which is learned with white water kayaking. This approach leads even beginners through the experience of white water straight to the core tasks of management. Therefore: Beginners are welcome! It’s about skills, not about muscles!

The course aim is to take over responsibility! Students will be able to fulfill the following functions of management in practice - strategy & planning, - organizing, - decision making, - team management, - leadership, - controlling in an unsecure and changing environment. The students will also improve their self-confidence and develop their style of management. At least, they will be able to manœuvre their kayak and take over responsibility for the team.

In this course you can receive 6 ECTS: The workload of the Summerschool in total is 150 hours, which is equivalent to 6 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System = 6 Credit Points, CP); each 35 hours will be provided for preparation and follow-up work. 80 hours are presence time. The target group are students of Bachelor, Master or Ph.D. level with a focus on business administration (business/economics) or other related sciences, which deal with management. Background management or kayaking knowledge might be helpful, but are not required, as the course is designed for beginners. Further requirements: Swimmers only, good English.

Accommodation: Our location for the seminar will take place in Claro, Ticino in Switzerland. This region provides the best possible conditions for an attractive course. As campground costs and food is included in the fee you only have to bring your personal belongings.
