Program Overview
- Program Description:
- The study course Fine Arts consists of eight semesters and finishes with the degree Bachelor of Arts. During the first semesters the students get acquainted with various drawing, painting and printing techniques. Later on, the students are encouraged to experiment with various techniques in order to develop their own individual artistic handwriting. A familiar atmosphere and the constant exchange with fellow students and teachers allow the students to reflect on their own work.
In addition to that, the school regularly organizes study trips to exhibitions or invites artists for exclusive guest lectures, where the students get the opportunity to ask questions or discuss their own work with professional artists.
One of the educational principles at the university is a clear focus on interdisciplinary work. By encouraging our students to engage in interdisciplinary projects we hope to improve their social skills, broaden their personal horizon and communicate an understanding for the various forms of creative art. The participation in an interdisciplinary workshop each semester is obligatory for all students. In order to prepare our students for their professional life, the school frequently organizes collaborations with external business partners and art galleries. This is essential not only for networking, but also to improve the students‘ skills in dealing with potential clients. Each semester the hKDM welcomes students from all over the world. Furthermore the school engages frequently in international projects. In July 2012 the hKDM was accepted in the ERASMUS program and is now officially qualified for hosting and international students. Currently we are initiating cooperations with partner universities from different countries. The hKDM is located in the heart of Freiburg, one of the most vibrant and juvenile cities in Germany. Both France and Switzerland are in close reach, which contributes to the cultural diversity within the area. Furthermore, the city is known for its almost Mediterranean climate, its high quality of life and its ecologically beneficial policy.
