- Program Description:
- HS – Tahrir internships is a 10 week long internship taking place in Cairo from June 15th until August 17th-24th. Interns will be working in HS as well as attending workshops on language, culture, politics and other subjects.
The internship is designed to be intensive and engaging for the interns participating, with a workload of approximately 35 hours per week. As a result of the location of the internship it will allow the interns to experience the changes taking place in the Arab world. Interns will also witness Ramdan, a month of charity, from 20 July to 20 August, approximately.
- Setting Description:
- Housing: Interns will be living with host families or other Egyptian Students in New Cairo. New Cairo is a new satellite city of Cairo. Located in what was formerly desert, the master plan was created in 2001 by a Boston firm. It is the home of the new campus of the American University in Cairo. New Cairo is 30 minutes away from Cairo Airport. It is around 2 hours away from Tahrir square. We think that living with Egyptians is the best from our past experience. One past exchange student said “I cannot imagine a better way to discover Egypt than living in an Egyptian family, hanging out with Egyptians, eating what Egyptians are used to eat and using public transportation!” Weather: The weather is not as hot as most people think! It can be hot between 12PM – 4PM but usually everybody is indoors during this time.
