- Action-packed, multi-sport learning adventure for teens in the last frontier! This experience is designed for teens who want an introduction to it all! Spend one day on the water and the next day in the mountains! Learn while you explore. All of the activities are centered around an environmental education curriculum that uses hands on adventure to teach students how to be active environmental citizens and provides them with a setting to explore one of the greatest places on earth!
Experience the coolest summer adventure! You will see and explore Alaska like a native. This is a small group adventure limited to 25 students. Activities include sea kayaking, glacier climbing, whale watching, hiking in the temperate rainforest, cultural interaction with the Kenaitze Tribe and participating in local conservation projects. Educationally our focus will be on the ecology of the Kenai Fjords including the human dimensions of resource management and the effects of climate change on the region for all living things.
Your life-changing adventure is carbon neutral and helps make a positive difference for the environment through your tuition dollars and service time. One week of adventure will help you discover a new place and learn about yourself along the way. Students who will be at least a junior in high school by the time of the program may earn college credit through the University of Wisconsin.
- Setting Description:
- Spend 7 days living in Seward, Alaska, the heart of the wild Kenai Fjords and coastal Alaska. Misty green mountains are covered with thick temperate rainforest. Blue glaciers cling to mountains and ice chunks the size of cars break off into the ocean. Wildlife is everywhere! Seeing moose, bears, otters, whales, and diving birds are common here.
- Cost:
- Sign Up before 1/15/2015 $2150 plus airfare and gratuity. Sign Up 1/15/15 and later $2350 plus airfare and gratuity. All inclusive from Anchorage with meals, lodging, transportation, equipment, instruction, carbon credits. College credit is available for an additional fee.
