- Program Description:
- With GPSA for Health’s Belize program, high school students travel to the beautiful yet impoverished nation of Belize, a small, English-speaking, Central American nation bordering on the Caribbean. While there is a significant tourism industry along the coast, students will be traveling to the interior of the country immediately after arriving at Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport in Belize City (BZE).
Students will work at the local healthcare clinic where they will deliver healthcare to some of the world’s poorest. One day they may be screening patients for hypertension, another assisting patients to manage their diabetes, and the following day teaching children to wash their hands or brush their teeth. Afternoons and evenings will be busy with training sessions about healthcare delivery and culture.
Participants not only learn more about healthcare, but they also get to know a new and different culture, perhaps making some lifelong friends in the process. Participants will be making a difference and starting their medical careers now!
