Program Overview

Program Description:
The Goddard MA in Individualized Studies offers support and guidance for projects whose purpose and scope demand exploration beyond and across established academic and artistic boundaries. Graduate studies in the program are aimed at the integration of knowledge, personal development, and social action. The pursuit of knowledge is defined not only as intellectual endeavor, but as transformative practice. Theory is valued for its potential to inspire action that contributes to healing the fractures in self and world, and to envisioning a peaceful world community inclusive of all living beings. Conversely, action is informed by broad and profound intellectual inquiry. The mission of the MA in Individualized Studies program is to foster the development of knowledge, practices, and modes of inquiry that represent a genuine attempt to offer new perspectives, in a world affected by huge transformative forces. The Goddard MA in Individualized Studies degree program offers a holistic, interdisciplinary and student-centered approach to learning that is personally and socially relevant and transformative. Unlike graduate programs with prescribed curricula, the Goddard program asks you to chart out your own path of in-depth and expansive study that has enduring meaning for your community, and your own life, and that contributes to the advancement of research and scholarship in your area of study. We help you find your creative, innovative edge where new knowledge emerges and transforms you and those touched by your work.
