Program Overview

Program Description:

In order to provide Thai children with greater opportunities and brighter futures, the Thailand Ministry of Education has prioritized English as a Foreign Language (EFL) training for Thai students. Global Service Corps is supporting the Ministry to meet this need by providing volunteers to teach English abroad. Volunteers teach basic conversational and intermediate English to students in rural areas of Thailand, and give the students a chance to practice their English speaking skills. The Teach English Abroad Program is offered throughout the year and ranges from two weeks to six months or longer; however, because of public holidays in April and October, volunteer opportunities at the schools are limited, and will consist of special projects such as English day camps. Undergraduate and graduate students may also receive college credit for their participation in any GSC program.

All participants begin their program with a five-day cultural orientation and training. Thai language lessons are included in the orientation as well as discussions on Thai culture, and a tour of the local area. Prior to departure, GSC provides international volunteers with a specialized teaching manual containing sample lesson plans and activities that will help to make you an effective teacher throughout your service.

Also, you will have the opportunity to enjoy an included Bangkok tour, Thai language lessons, and excursions with fellow volunteers from all over the world as well as your own personal trips/adventures on weekends.

Setting Description:

Volunteers are based in Singburi, Thailand with GSC’s partner organization. Participants stay in newly constructed group housing facilities in a beautiful rural setting, providing an opportunity to share experiences with other volunteers from around the world. A weekend tour of Bangkok is also included at the start of all Thailand programs.
