- The Department of Biology at Georgia State University offers Ph.D. and M.S. programs in cell biology and physiology (CBP). These programs prepare students for careers in biomedical research and teaching. Research areas include the function and regulation of membrane ion channels and receptors, the function of regulation of oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes and cellular responses to genotoxic stress, genetics of susceptibility to disease and aging, the transport and toxicity of heavy metals in renal tubules, the molecular and genetic basis of microtubule organization in Drosophila, and hormonal control of mammalian reproduction.
