Program Overview

Program Description:
This postgraduate Msc course starts every year in September and has duration of 1 year. During the first semester (September - February), lectures are given in Rotterdam, while the second semester is usually spent at one of our partner universities (thesis project). Apart from the Erasmus University Rotterdam, where this course is held, the course is organised by the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, the University of Copenhagen, the University of Antwerp (UA) and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. The MEMR attracts top talents from various disciplines to this course (Economics, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, History, Architecture, Business, Civil Engineering, Law or Public Administration). The program is also an excellent opportunity for PhD candidates - the structure of the course enables students to follow just one or a few of the various modules that we offer. These modules deal with the following topics: Urban Dynamics, Cities in the Knowledge Economy, City Marketing, Urban Governance, Cities and Climate Change, Accessibility of cities and regions, Land and Real Estate Management, Urban Tourism, Culture and Design. In the academic year 2008/09 we have successfully introduced a new module called Sustainable Cities, Climate Change and Land Management where top academicians and practitioners have given their contribution. The MEMR is an initiative of the Euricur institute. The European Institute for Comparative Urban Research (Euricur) aims to gain a deeper understanding of how cities develop and how they are managed. Euricur was founded in 1989 by the Mayors of Rotterdam and Barcelona, and Erasmus University Rotterdam. It has a close relation with Eurocities, a membership organisation of more than 130 European Cities.
