Program Description:
For over 20 years, the ELI has been offering excellent programs helping international students achieve their goal of learning English for academic or personal purposes. The Summer 2016 programs for high school and undergraduate students are no different. Our Summer Academy invites students from across the globe to join us for six theme-based weeks. Industry leaders serve as guest lecturers during these courses

The Summer Academy allows students to study academic English while learning and studying in New York City. There are two three week sessions where students can come for one week, one session, or both sessions. Students will improve their reading, writing, speaking, and listening while discovering the many interesting sites and sounds of New York. Academic learning will take place in the morning and there will be various cultural activities in the afternoon that will re-enforce their learning. Session 1: 1: A Greener New York-Urban Sustainability 2: Make New York - The Maker Movement 3: Eat Your Way Across NYC - From Pelham Bay to Park Avenue, Firehouses to Four-Star Restaurants Session 2: 1: Live from New York City - An Exploration of Performing Arts 2: Going, going, gone - New York Sports 3: New York City- Fashion Forward

Students will live in dorms and study at the university. They will travel throughout the city and participate in various cultural programs ) such as NYC double-decker bus (All Loops - 48 hours); Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island Ferry; Woodbury Commons trip; an afternoon Broadway show; Metropolitan Museum of Art (guided tour); movie passes (2 tickets per student); or other local cultural activities aligned to the weekly theme.
Cost:
Students will take a placement examination on the Sunday preceding the first day of each session and will be placed into either Level 1 or Level 2. Students attending one or two weeks will take a placement examination on the Sunday preceding the first day of their first week. Level 1 ? Monday - Friday, 25 hours/week ?
