Program Overview

Program Description:
This program examines the relationship between social and cultural values and the making of social policy in both the public and private sectors. Students choose a focus in one of the major social institutions (e.g. health, education). You can also focus on the ways in which the implementation of policy affects specific groups within society, such as women, ethnic and religious minorities, social classes and age groups, as well as how these groups influence the policy process.

Whatever your particular area of focus, the program in social policy is designed to enable you to develop a keener understanding of policy and its roots in social values. This understanding will help you work more effectively in your career and society, as you identify possibilities for change. The program also stresses an awareness of different cultural and social groups within the United States.
