Program Overview

Program Description:

Are you passionate about economics? Then, join our close-knit intellectual community of faculty and graduate students in the economics department at Emory! You will be prepared to "think like an economist" in a challenging job in academe, industry, government, or a think tank. The hallmark of our program is close interaction between faculty and students. Many students write research papers with the faculty, and in some cases this work develops into part of the dissertation. Other joint work stands alone, and is submitted to academic journals for publication. During the academic year 2007-2008, two graduate students' papers co-authored with faculty were accepted for publication at top economics journals: American Economic Review and Economic Inquiry. Almost all of this work is presented in the weekly departmental research seminar. Our graduate students also present their research at prestigious academic conferences. The economics department is home to two academic journals: Econometric Reviews and Managerial and Decision Economics. A few of the other recent job placements for our students include: • Assistant Professors at the University of Richmond, Oxford College, Emory Law School, San Diego State University, Clemson University, Deakin University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Georgia Tech College of Management; • Visiting Scholar at the Bundesbank in Berlin, Germany; • Director of the Department of Credit and Risk Management and Associate Policy Advisor and Research Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta; • Senior Associates at Deloitte and Touche, Ernst and Young, and Analysis, Inc.; • Quantitative Strategist at OTA Asset Management.
