Program Overview
- Program Description:
- EcuaExplora is a well-respected volunteer organization based in Quito, Ecuador has paired up with a local orphanage in northern Quito provides emotional and physical support along with tender loving care to 50 to 60 homeless children ranging in the ages from newborn to 13 years old.
Interns/volunteers will be enrolled in five hours of weekly Spanish class. This would be a great experience for educators and social workers to put on their resume. By living with a local host family, volunteers will learn even more about the culture and practice their conversational Spanish. Volunteers are given three meals per day. Volunteers will enjoy organized excursions that may include visits to the beach, nature and wildlife reserves, or indigenous markets.
Airport pickup, homestay accommodations with three meals/day, health/safety/cultural orientation, program supervision, and 24 hour staff support. Fees do not include airfare, insurance, any VISA fees. And optional one on one Spanish classes can be arranged at USD6 per hour.
- Setting Description:
- The orphanage is located in a beautiful area with playgrounds, educational facilities, and even a pool for physical therapy. However, they are lacking volunteers to help give love and attention to these children. Volunteers should be open minded, patient, and creative; an interest or background in special education is a plus.
