- Program Description:
This is an opportunity for you to be part of a new volunteering programme in Kenya where you can use your talents and skills to enhance the lives of vulnerable children who have suffered much due to poverty, HIV/Aids or being orphaned. Your presence will make a genuine difference to the lives of this community
Volunteers will live in the Kithoka Amani Community Home (KACH) and are invited to: • Help care for children who live there • Help teach English to children in the local schools • Work on the organic farm or with one of our women's workshops • Help with general housekeeping and in the kitchen • Learn about the culture and customs of the local Kenyan people • Social time - trips to the local town and cultural
This is an opportunity to meet new people, learn a new language, experience a part of Africa, and learn how to build intercultural relationships. By volunteering, you will also have the opportunity to lend a hand to those who are working to improve life's in their communities. Through work and interactions with members of a local community, you will gain a better understanding of the culture, as well as the issues that affect that part of the world. Most important, you will, in addition learn a lot about yourself, as you take on the challenge of living and working in a completely new environment.
- Setting Description:
- You will be based in Meru, Kenya, a five hour drive from Nairobi, Kenya’s capital city, approximately 350km. It is situated on the northeast slopes of Mount Kenya, and nearby is the Meru National Park that was home to George and Joy Adamson in the 60's. It is about 5 miles north of the equator. Meru is the sixth largest urban centre in Kenya.
- Cost:
- Total cost includes pre-departure and on-return support from Ecologia, and the volunteering programme in Meru: transport from Nairobi to Meru and back, accommodation, meals, local transport in Meru. It does not include the cost of airfares, travel insurance, inoculations or visa. 3 months £1,460
