Program Overview

Program Description:
The English Language Academy (ELA) at DePaul University offers a summer program that gives intermediate to advanced English speakers an opportunity to advance their English skills through experiential learning. Participants study the economic, social, historical and political circumstances that led to the birth of one of the world's great cities, Chicago. Using knowledge from the classroom, students explore the city's ethnic communities and its famous architecture.

The course is designed to give students the feel of a real university course. There is lots of hands-on learning and a variety of field trips. The program offers challenging content, but does not have the heavy homework load of the ELA's intensive English program. Because the class meets only 15 hours per week, it is not considered full-time study and does not require a student visa.

This program provides maximum language acquisition opportunity within the limits of a short course experience.
Setting Description:
The campus is located on DePaul University's "Loop" Campus in the heart of Chicago. All classroom study is conducted on campus, but students in this program get out into the city on a regular basis as they learn about Chicago and its diverse people.
Cost:
June Session: Ethnic Communities (3.5 weeks) - $995 July Session Architecture (3.5 weeks) - $995 Both sessions - $1,990
