Program Description:
The Course aims to develop the studentsÆ general knowledge and critical understanding of political, social and economical features of African societies since the 19th century, of synchronic and diachronic approaches to the study of African societies, of the interplay between religion and politics in Africa, of aspects of gender in relation to the economy of nutrition, of the role of education in development and of issues of urbanization and urban politics in Africa. The goal of the course is that the students deepen their capacity to analyse issues of continuity and change in African societies, their critical ability to evaluate different types of sources, their capacity to analyse a general research problem relevant for several countries to thereby formulate a research problem and present it orally and in writing.
