Program Description:
Defensa de Niñas y Niños Internacional of Costa Rica it is a NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION, which focuses its actions in promoting and defending the human rights of children and adolescents to achieve recognition and exercise their citizenship status through actions involving the co-responsibility of states, international bodies and civil society participation. DNI was founded in 1994 and declared a Public Utility Mission to the interests of the state by the executive authority of the Republic of Costa Rica. This year we are celebrating our 20th Anniversary. The issues and themes addressed by DNI are: • Labour Exploitation and Violence Work • Right to quality education • Emotional Education • Sexual Violence (commercial and noncommercial) • Safety and Juvenile Justice • HIV / AIDS • Sexual Health Education • Teen Pregnancy Education • Domestic violence and family • Violence in schools • Violence in the streets and in communities • Violence in institutions • Migration • Early Childhood • Protection of natural resources and the environment • The human right to water and basic sanitation • Economic, social, and cultural rights

The course consists of both grammar and conversation, focusing more on oral production, hence the importance of cultural immersion culture through volunteer projects and living with host families.

Learning customs, traditions, beliefs, languages and, above all, the social problems of a country, educate and prepare us to become agents of change. We believe that cultural exchange with other countries, is an effective means to do so.
Setting Description:
Classes are held on DNI but social projects are in different parts of the metropolitan área of San José. In the DNI office is performed all the logistics of the projects and field work is performed in communities, mostly located in urban marginal areas
