The following fields of research (topics of emphasis in parentheses) are available for doctoral study: plasma physics (fusion and space plasmas), applied mathematics (scientific computation and geophysical fluid dynamics), solid-state physics (semiconductor and surface physics), quantum electronics (free electron lasers and laser interactions with matter), nuclear science (medical applications), and atmospheric science (global climate modeling and remote sensing).
