Program Overview

Program Description:
The M.S. in Higher Education Leadership and Administration is a 10-course, 30-credit graduate degree program expressly designed to enhance the leadership skills of aspiring college leaders. Instructors will be comprised of senior practitioners in the field including current and former college presidents, provosts and deans; and full-time faculty, expert in diverse fields of study such as ethics, program evaluation and planning. Courses will cover a wide array of subjects including higher education law, strategic planning, budgeting, risk management, resource stewardship, community relations, enrollment management and effective leadership styles for successful leaders. Taught in small-grou0p seminars to encourage discussion, the degree is designed for those working full- or part-time with courses offered in the evenings and on Saturdays in traditional and hybrid format. As part of the capstone course in the program, students will produce applied research papers that are intended to be publishable and adaptable in future leadership settings. Graduate Certificates of Advanced Study Students who wish to gain specialized knowledge in certain aspects of higher education leadership and administration may choose to pursue a stand-alone advanced certificate. Two advanced certificates will be offered: ? Certificate of Advanced Study in Organizational Leadership (15 credits) – Combining courses in the MBA and educational leadership programs ? Certificate of Advanced Study in Quality Control for Higher Education (15 credits) – Focusing on developing skills in research, assessment, accreditation and program evaluation. These certificate options provide focused learning and professional development opportunities to early- and mid-career faculty and administrators, with or without a master’s degree, seeking an additional credential to improve their prospects for advancement. Certificates are also attractive to mid-career or senior-level executives in other professions who are considering a career change into high education administration.
