- We believe that successful design is built upon a culture of proactive collaboration and practical work experience. During the internships, students have the chance to use innovative COMAS platforms for research and practice while fostering links with local authorities, design firms, social organizations, and businesses.
FabLabIL - Design Technology Internship
You will have the opportunity to gain practical research and work experience within FabLab Israel (FabLabIL), a community-based digital manufacturing laboratory, founded on cooperation between the Department of Interior Design at COMAS and the Israeli Center for Digital Art in Holon. As part of a global network of laboratories founded by the Center of Bits and Atoms at MIT, FablabIL offers a new approach to current technologies.
Projects range from the design and fabrication of elements and furniture, to developing sensorial responsive environments for children with special needs, to local intervention and collaboration with the neighboring community in the design and fabrication of elements for public spaces – to name just a few.
Designer’s Clinic - Community-Based Internship
The Designer's Clinic utilizes architecture and design as tools for social therapy, whereby various stakeholders in society – designers, municipal officials, and residents – collaborate to create healthy and sane environments.
Students gain practical experience with social entrepreneurship and work on projects that have real-world impact and involve active community participation in the process, while considering social, environmental, and economic engagement. Participants will plan, create, and implement various design projects that have an impact on specific social groups and communities on or near the COMAS campus.
Project examples include planning a social club space for an association for mentally handicapped children and adults, designing products to be manufactured by a special-needs group and sold at their community shop, and creating a joint courtyard kitchen and green roof spaces for a neighborhood in the Israeli city of Holon.
Internship placements are available with numerous leading Israeli design firms.
