Program Overview

Program Description:
This program provides an excellent introduction to business in China and to Mandarin Chinese language in a high quality, low cost, experiential program in the heart of China's financial and commercial capital. An active out of class field trip schedule puts participants in touch with the cultural and historical context in which China's businesses and economy are developing.

This four-week program provides non-specialists the chance to study in one or two courses: Business in Contemporary China and Intensive Mandarin Chinese language (Beginning or Intermediate). The business course is team taught in English by faculty who cover topics critical to China's transformation from a command economy to one that is more open and market driven. The many class-related field trips in and around the city of Shanghai, to businesses and to places of historic and cultural importance, provide participants the opportunity to learn first-hand about the economic and societal changes underway in this dynamic region of China.

Program costs include housing (private room and bathroom), tuition, field trips, administrative fees, sickness and accident insurance, visa documents and airport ground transfer.
Setting Description:
Shanghai, the financial and commercial capital of China, is a booming global metropolis that represents in many ways the economic miracle underway in China since the 1980s. This program is based in central Shanghai in a large urban university, and is an ideal location for participants to learn about business and the economic changes taking place in China, and study Mandarin Chinese language. The program is directed toward those who want to understand business in China, experience the culture first-hand, and learn the language. Housing is in foreign student dormitories on campus.
