Program Overview

Program Description:
Students choose between Irish Studies, Irish Language and Education in Ireland. Courses within each offering cannot be mixed. The series of field trips is designed to complement the courses taught in the various modules and is an integral element in the overall course structure. Students choose two courses and earn 6 credits for the summer.

Irish Studies program incorporates elements from all the contributing disciplines, a series of interdisciplinary seminars focusing on key themes in Irish Studies such as Identity, Emigration, and Religion, and a broad range of elective courses. The Education program is designed to offer North American teachers an opportunity to study aspects of the Irish Education System and is suitable for elementary and secondary teachers. The Irish Language course is offered for beginners to the intermediate levels each summer.

Costs include: instructional costs, CCIS and sponsor fees and health insurance.
Setting Description:
National University of Ireland, Galway is situated on the banks of the River Corrib, and offers a variety of student services that are all close to Galway's center. Galway is a vibrant cosmopolitan city with a thriving cultural and commercial community. The campus comprises the historic original buildings and a recent modern development of library, lecture halls, laboratories, social and recreational amenities.
