Program Description:
Union Semester is an innovative academic internship program for national and international students, open to undergraduates, recent college graduates and graduate students. The program provides the opportunity to learn about organized labor in a challenging environment both inside and outside the classroom.

Union Semester students carry out a 32-hour a week internship with a New York City-based labor union or worker organization and take a full load of Labor Studies classes at CUNY's Murphy Institute for Worker Education. Students who successfully complete their internship and a full load of Union Semester courses will earn a Certificate in Labor Studies by the School of Professional Studies (SPS), CUNY.

Students are awarded a $1,900 scholarship towards tuition, a stipend of $3,570 and a monthly unlimited transit pass by host organizations to help cover the cost of the program. Remaining tuition, fees and room and board are the responsibility of the individual student.

New York City's vibrant labor movement plays host to students in Union Semester each fall and spring semester.
Cost:
Tuition and program fees, after the $1,900 scholarship every student receives, total $1,150 for undergraduates, and $2,790 for graduate student participants. Costs are subject to change.
