With academic experts and local guides as your teachers throughout the trip, you gain great insight into the art, archeology, history and literature of these ancient civilizations.
On this unique travel-study J-Term program, you can look forward to the following:
Visiting the birthplace of western civilization - The Mediterranean region is often regarded as the region of the world with some of the most influential civilizations in western history. Evidence has been found of human settlement in this fruitful place from hundreds of thousands of years ago, and it has remained a central location for civilizations across millennia, including the mighty Byzantine, Ottoman and Roman Empires. On this program you won’t only be reading about this history, you will be seeing, touching, and feeling it all around you!
Escaping the winter for a bit of Mediterranean sunshine! Shed that winter coat and take a walk around the bustling street markets of Istanbul, the lively avenues of Rome, and the island villages of Crete. As you explore these different locations and all that they have to offer -- from the grandeur of the Colosseum to the peaceful poise of the Parthenon -- you won’t ever want to come back (talk to us about staying on for the spring semester at a discounted price).
Choosing from several courses for your academic experience - Earn academic credit in the following fields: art, archaeology, history and politics, or religion. All courses are taught by experts in their fields, with a combination of classroom-based lectures and on-site learning. The classes offered are great to complete your general education requirements, as electives in your coursework, or to count towards your major.
