Program Overview

Program Description:

Located on the east coast of New South Wales, Australia, Sydney supports more than 3000 different marine species. The unique combination of warm tropical waters from the north and colder southern currents means the Sydney Harbor and coastline is home to a vast array of marine plants and animals. Making it one of the most ideal locations in the world to study the impacts of coastal sustainability through the lens of urbanization and climate change.

You will study this valuable ecosystem up close, combining biology and environmental studies in your multidisciplinary work. Through snorkeling in an aquatic reserve and guided tours of national parks, you’ll discover which key species are under threat from marine pollution, human activity and climate change – and how to make a difference.

Most days will begin at the CIEE Global Institute right in the heart of the city center a short distance from your hostel accommodation where you’ll live with fellow CIEE classmates.  Your classes will explore marine science and conservation, Australian and indigenous culture, and will assist to set you up for your future career in the marine biology or oceanography fields.
