Program Overview
- Program Description:
From this island paradise in the Mediterranean, you’ll do research, conservation and field work on the coast and at sea.
There are few better places in the world to study marine life. Teeming with biodiversity, the Mediterranean Sea supports more than 15,000 different species, several of them unique to this area. On the beautiful island of Mallorca you’ll study this valuable ecosystem up close, combining ecology, biology and environmental studies in your multidisciplinary work.
Snorkeling in marine protected areas, you’ll discover which key species are under threat from marine pollution and human activity – and how to make a difference. Your days will consist of field work out at sea and in coastal areas, combined with lectures and hands-on conservation work. On dry land, you’ll have time to explore the spirited island culture, enjoy Mediterranean cuisine or the daily island catch, discover modern art or ancient architectural sites, and chill or play sports on the white-sand beaches.
For three weeks your home base will be Palma, a coastal city frequently listed among the world’s most livable cities. It’s easy to get swept up in the island lifestyle, with locals and visitors alike making the most of the great outdoors: running, hiking, cycling or mountain biking; kayaking, sailing, surfing or stand-up paddle boarding.
