Program Overview

Program Description:
The Volunteers' Village provides the opportunity to work with disadvantaged and disabled children and live in a friendly and inexpensive environment. Children’s Hope, the charity which runs it, encourages volunteers of all ages from around the world to visit Sri Lanka and help our children. We are a non-discriminatory, non religious and non-profit orientated organisation.

Opportunities are available on several projects, including: providing after-school activities such as arts and crafts and sports coaching at Neth Savan Sarana, a hostel for deaf and blind children; helping with the renovation of paediatric wards at Karipitiya Hospital, one of the country's three main hospitals; assisting with English and ICT lessons at the Volunteers' Village itself.

The program offer a diverse range of volunteering opportunities, allowing participants to develop a broad set of skills, from leadership to cookery and teaching to building renovation. We are always keen to use volunteers' own skills to best advantage, so there is great scope for developing your own projects, thus improving leadership and organisational skills.
Setting Description:
The Volunteers' Village is located literally a stone's throw from the south coast of Sri Lanka, with a picturesque beach lined with coconut trees lying just across the road. Twenty minutes' drive to the west lies Galle, the capital of the Southern Province, with a thriving community and fascinating history.
Cost:
You do not pay to volunteer here. We ask for $500 per month to cover costs of accommodation, which includes three meals a day, clean drinking water, an ensuite bathroom with shower, computer access and wifi.
