Program Overview

Program Description:
ECES is a liberal arts program designed specifically for international students wanting to study in Prague. The program is a part of the Faculty (College) of Arts at Charles University, one of Europe’s oldest learning institutions. Courses are offered during the winter, spring, and summer terms with instruction in English. All students will take part in a mandatory Czech Language and Culture course before the semester begins.

Courses are offered during the fall and spring along with a special four-week summer program. With small class sizes, students have more individualized attention with their professors. Students can choose classes in the fields of: Literature; Art and Culture; History; Sociology and Psychology; Economics and Politics; and Languages. You will also have an opportunity to take classes (in English) with international students at Charles University’s Faculty of Arts. Students may take up to 7 classes, each worth 3 U.S. credits.

Since 1992, ECES has provided a dynamic learning environment in the heart of Europe for international students. The program offers courses in six academic fields with small class sizes to ensure an enhanced learning experience. Students may stay in the university dorm that has an on-site residential and cultural coordinator. ECES Experience •Orientation week with two free day trips to important sites in the Czech Republic •10 day Czech intensive course •Ability to enroll in up to 7 classes, or 21 credits (200-300 level) •24 hour phone emergency assistance. One of our staff members is on call 24 hours in case of an emergency. •Resident assistant. To ensure that your daily needs are met, a staff member lives in the student dormitory and provides help, and advice about daily life in Prague. •Small class sizes (14-18 students per class) •2-3 walking tours around Prague •Planned excursions – day and international trips •English speaking staff •Student ID with access to local discounts •Complimentary airport pick-up on the official arrival day.
Setting Description:
The Czech Republic is centrally located in Europe and is a gateway to other major cities, making it an ideal place to study abroad. Prague has been the political, cultural, and economic center of the Czech state for more than 1100 years. To take advantage of this historical city, you can visit one of the many museums, opera, cafés, and sights that Prague has to offer. You can walk to school through the castle district or you can hop on a tram, part of Prague’s efficient public transportation system (and one of the best in Europe).
