Program Description:

A cohort based program that can either be completed in two years full-time, or three years part-time, the School Counseling program prepares students to work as counselors in schools, from grades K-12. The program prepares graduates for work in variety of settings including college and career guidance, mental health counseling, student social and emotional support and consultation with teachers and parents. The MA is earned in tandem with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling. An emphasis in Professional Clinical Counseling is available. The emphasis allows students to meet the educational requirements to become Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC). Our Masters in school counseling provides training for candidates who wish to work as guidance counselors in schools from preschool through high school. The school counselor program prepares students to perform a variety of tasks including college and career guidance, mental health counseling, student social and emotional support, and consultation with teachers and parents. The main counseling builds on the mission of the College of Educational Studies by seeking to prepare knowledgeable, skilled, and reflective school counselors who are effective change agents for individuals, families, communities, andinstitutions. Chapman's school counselor degree program curriculum is built on the American Association of School Counselor's National Model of school counseling as well as eight "big ideas."
