Program Overview

Program Description:

This intensive marine biology course is taught in the field over 10 class days in the winter and two weeks in the summer. Students experience hands-on course work in the rain forests and rivers of Belize then transfer to an island for days of work in the Caribbean Sea. Students are wading, hiking, swimming or snorkeling almost every day in this incredibly bio-diverse country. The course activities challenge students personally and permeates their learning in very engaging ways.

Snorkel every day the class is on the island, identifying and understanding the flora and fauna of the Caribbean. Learn how the interaction of humans impacts the waterways. Meet local people, eat local foods,dance to Garifuna drumming and Belizean music.

Three credit hours, transferable to home institutions with prior approval. Powerful experiential learning engages students in the course material and gives them "bragging rights" for the amazing activities which are part of the course work.

Setting Description:
Students study in English-speaking Belize in Central America, just south of the Yucatan Pennisula and located on the western Caribbean Sea. Belize has incredible bio- and cultural diversity which allows students to learn just by being in the country. Bountiful rivers, creeks, lakes, lagoons and the barrier reef become classrooms.
Cost:
$2,825 for one course, 3 credit hours summer session, $2,995 one course winter session USD. Course prices include course work, housing, transfers to and from the Belize international airport, transportation for course field trips, most meals (all meals at field stations), one transcript for course credit. Fees do not include airfare. Winter $2,995 (one course only) Summer $2,825 for one course, $4995 for two courses.
