Program Description:

This 13-16 week program runs year round and emphasizes preparation for academic work at the university/college level. (All levels of English learners are welcome!) The Intensive English Program is for students who are: o Preparing to study at a U.S. college or university o Want to prepare for TOEFL, GMAT, GRE or other entrance examinations o Receive ALI's TOEFL waiver to CSULB o Studying English for their major or career o Want to succeed in a university classroom with native English speakers o Fun or leisure

The Intensive English Program (IEP) is designed to prepare students for academic work at the college/university level. The program is offered every Spring, Summer and Fall terms. A placement test given during new student orientation determines the level in which students are placed. Students may begin in any term and continue year-round. Beginning to advanced English learners are welcome. TOEFL waivers to a CSULB university degree program, activities and housing assistance are available.

Setting Description:

California State University, Long Beach is one of the largest schools in the California State University system and second largest university by enrollment in the state of California with 35,000 students. CSULB is a large urban campus with 8 colleges and over 280 fields of study. Located in Los Angeles County and only 3 miles (4.8 km) from the ocean, CSULB is a short ride from the beach. Long Beach is a large city located in Southern California, USA, on the Pacific coast. It is situated in Los Angeles County, about 20 miles (32 km) south of downtown Los Angeles. Long Beach is the fifth- largest city in California and 2nd largest city within the Los Angeles area with 492,682 inhabitants.
