Program Overview
- Program Description:
The purpose of the online Bachelor of Arts in Communication degree program is to equip working professionals with a high level of proficiency in creating, developing and delivering presentations. As a graduate of the program, they exhibit creativity, confidence and competence through the development of nationally accepted verbal communications principles and practices.
Today, an organization's reputation, profitability, and its continued existence can depend on the degree to which its targeted public supports its goals and policies. Communication majors,—also referred to as communications specialists, public relations specialists, and media specialists, among other titles—serve as advocates for clients seeking to build and maintain positive relationships with the public. Their clients include businesses, nonprofit associations, universities, hospitals, churches and other organizations, and build and maintain positive relationships with the public. As managers recognize the link between good public relations and the success of their organizations, they increasingly rely on public relations specialists for advice on the strategy and policy of their communications.
Public relations specialists handle organizational functions, such as media, community, consumer, industry, and governmental relations; political campaigns; interest-group representation; conflict mediation; and employee and investor relations. Public relations specialists must understand the attitudes and concerns of community, consumer, employee, and public interest groups to establish and maintain cooperative relationships between them and representatives from print and broadcast journalism. Communications majors who specialize in Public Relations work as social media directors or in media relations, event planning, campaigns for non-profits and businesses, and public relations writing.
The online Bachelor of Arts in Communication degree program is designed to take students through a journey that embraces personal, professional, and spiritual transformation. Students graduating from the program will be equipped to address issues in a global context, with the ethical standards of a Christian heritage. In addition, students will leave the program with the capacity to self-reflect, think critically, lead and engage others, and make effective decisions.
