Program Description:

Do you dream of pain au chocolat and ratatouille? Spend this summer with French speaking friends and the wonderful smells of coastal, alpine and Provincial French food. Explore an ancient city built by the Romans and start your tasty journey by following a local shepherd across a lush, green field, getting to see the farm to table movement at its roots. Practice French and pick up cooking tips from your homestay family as you participate in Bastille day festivities and hike the Alps with wild ibex and golden eagles. Warm up down south in the deep blue Mediterranean sea where you’ll explore the venetian canals and rich history of Sète before getting hands on in the kitchen, whipping up a delicious pot of steaming mussels.

We would never skip dessert, of course. After a intensive couple of days with a professional French chef, perfecting the art of folding croissants and filling eclairs in an historic countryside manor, head to the ‘City of Lights.’ Wave hello to Mona Lisa and count your steps as you ascend the Eiffel Tower, life is lived to the fullest every day in Paris. As you stroll down Rue Cler, listen to street vendors call out to you and realize that you can understand it all, and even haggle back in French. There are many other sweet spots to visit to round out your trip. You’ll take home more than a recipe for the perfect quiche and those special spices you picked up in Briançon; you’ll also bring home a deeper connection to the French language and the culture of this aromatic country. You won’t believe how fun and easy it has been to earn your 3 college credits in French.

There is no better place to get accustomed to French food than in France. You can smell it in the air, a passion for food and a love of sharing that knowledge. Explore the hillside farms high up in the Alps where fresh food is brought immediately to the kitchen, where it is turned into a delicious meal. It doesn’t get fresher than that. The French sun is perfect for growing asparagus, artichokes and fennel while the coast produces the most decadent mussels and oysters the Aegean Sea can offer. The romance of Paris is captured by the sweetness of its macarons, casually eaten during an evening stroll by the Seine. There is nothing artificial about the food you will enjoy or the experience you will have this summer in France.
